Is Enterprise data going out the door on Kindle's?

With the complete explosion of everything connecting, there is a good chance that many enterprises have employee's that have already setup their Kindle Fire devices to access corporate email, etc.

Nothing is really new on this front, since many utility devices like ereaders, are typically running the Android Operating System.  The next part required on the device (secret sauce) is their ability to communicate with email systems like Exchange via Microsoft's ActiveSync protocol...  Mix those two things together and put it onto any device (camera, game console, car, internet connected Furby) and you have a recipe for more enterprise data security concerns, pain, and angst...  I'm kidding about the internet connected Furby, but it sounds interesting...

This trend is only growing, so to get in front of things, many of the MDM platforms have support with their device side clients devices like the Kindle Fire.  AirWatch just released an update a few weeks ago, see clip here:

You probably will see more examples connected devices getting corporate email, so just focus on how your enterprise manages Android device security and secure mail.   Many of the platforms for Android include support for the Nitrodesk TouchDown email client to manage corporate email.

Keep your eye out for some other class devices accessing your corporate email over the next year or so (Xbox, Car, Alarm Clock, etc)....

I'll also be presenting a webinar in the early part of 2013 entitled "Who let Android into the Enterprise?”.   As the Android OS evolves, Google, third party software vendors and device manufacturers are producing solutions to close many of IT's concerns around Android.
